Join in when Volterra transforms itself back into a true medieval town on the third and fourth Sundays in August – and don’t be surprised if the women of the town sit spinning in front of their houses, the men duel with swords in medieval costume and troubadour songs ring out from somewhere nearby. With theatre performances, music and dancing, staged combat and traditional markets, a piece of the town’s more than 3,000-year history comes back to life.
